Voluntary Iʿtikaf in the Mosque

Question

What is the ruling on performing iʿtikaf (staying in the mosque with the intention of worship) in the mosque with the intention of voluntary (nafl) iʿtikaf on days other than the blessed month of Ramadan?

Answer

Voluntary iʿtikaf may also take place outside Ramadan, and it is proper for such a muʿtakif (one in iʿtikaf) as well to stay in the mosque.
