Building a Residence for the Imam on the Roof of the Mosque
Question
Question: A mosque is three-storeyed, and there is no place in it for the imam and the muezzin to live; moreover, within the mosque compound there is no such place where rooms could be built for the imam and the muezzin to reside. In such a situation, is it permissible to build a room or rooms for a religious madrasa and the residence of students on a small part of the mosque’s roof or on the whole roof?
Answer
There is no permission. Thus it is in al-Bahr al-Ra’iq, vol. 5, p. 251.
