Women Going to the Mosque to Fill the Niche

Question

Is it permissible or not for women to go inside the mosque to light a lamp and, bringing gulgule (sweet fritters) “in fragrance” (?), to fill the niche with them, or to carry out other tasks, and for the worshippers to eat those gulgule?

Answer

The mosque is for prayer, dhikr and other forms of worship. Women should be prevented from going there to light lamps and, out of joy, to fill the niche with gulgule. Whatever is to be given as sadaqa should be sent to the poor; and if oil or the like is to be given for the lamp, that too should be sent through someone.
