Abandoning the Mosque Merely out of Obstinacy
Question
Only a few people are with him; the rest of the village’s Muslims have not joined him, and those people who are regular in prayer were not included at all in building the mosque; rather, those people now pray outside, from pillar to post. Is it permissible or not to build a mosque in this situation?
Answer
Abandoning the mosque and praying from pillar to post merely out of obstinacy — because “we were not included, we were not consulted” — is prohibited; the prayer ought to be performed in the mosque itself. And for those building the mosque, too, altering the mosque or demolishing it without consulting the worshippers is a bad thing.
