Keeping Salaries Low and Spending on a School from the Mosque’s Income

Question

The imams of the mosques are paid a salary of 50/60/70 rupees a month, which is very little, although the income is quite ample. But instead of spending this income on the mosque and on increasing the imams’ salaries, more of it is spent on worldly education in a school — and the worldly education too is very poor. Is it permissible to spend eighty per cent of the mosques’ income on worldly education in a school? Religious education is not given.

Answer

When it is not permitted to spend the income of one mosque on another mosque, then how could it be permissible to spend the mosque’s income on a school? Those who spend it are sinners, and liability (daman) is binding upon them. Appointing such people as administrators of endowments is also not correct.
