Building a Latrine near the Mosque
Question
Some bricks of the mosque were laid in the veranda of the mosque. The disciples, for the said shaykh, took up those bricks and built a latrine inside the mosque, that is, facing the courtyard. When fair-minded people objected, the disciples and the respected spiritual guide paid no heed?
Answer
It was proper for the said shaykh to act on the advice of the mutawalli and the worshippers, so that no one would have grounds for objection. If a latrine is built near the mosque for the needs of the worshippers, there is latitude for it in the Shari‘a, but care should be taken that the stench does not reach the mosque.
