Repairing the Wall of a Mosque
Question
There is a mosque whose wall is of unbaked material. Zayd says, “I will have baked bricks put into its wall and make an awning, whereby the mosque will become strong and my work will also go on.” Is it permissible for Zayd to have bricks put into the wall of this mosque with this intention?
Answer
There is no doubt about repairing or strengthening the mosque and meeting its needs: all these things are commendable and a means of reward. But what is meant by “my work will also go on” is not understood. Once the explanation of this work is known, its ruling can be written.
