A Waqf for Religious Education Is Excellent
Question
Zayd wants to make a piece of land waqf. In the village there is a madrasa in which primary Islamic education is given, and alongside it there is also a school registered with the government, in which the education is specifically English and governmental. Regarding the school, the government is demanding that someone give a plot of land and that it be registered for the school in perpetuity. Therefore the waqif (endower) Zayd is anxious: how is it to make waqf for the school as against the madrasa?
Answer
Making a waqf for a good cause is a great act of worship and a means of reward; so let him make it waqf for religious education, so that it remains a continuous charity (sadaqa jariya) and the reward keeps coming afterwards too.
