Is a Building Built with Donations for a Madrasa a Waqf?
Question
A religious madrasa was established here 38 years ago; teaching began in a rented building. The madrasa’s expenses are met from private and general donations. A few years after the madrasa was founded, the ruler of Tonk State fixed an annual sum of one thousand. Since this income could not cover the madrasa’s expenses, donations were also collected from outside through a fundraiser, and they still are; and the aid fixed by the state’s ruler stopped coming under the present government for several reasons.
Answer
A building that has been built or bought with collected donations has not yet become waqf until it is made waqf; and the interests of the madrasa require that it be made waqf from now on. In “Qadi Khan” (vol. 4, p. 30)
