Will a child for whom the aqiqa was not performed intercede?
Question
Question: If a nursing infant dies without the aqiqa having been performed for him, will he intercede (shafa‘a) for his mother and father on the Day of Resurrection or not? If not, is there any way for the parents to obtain his intercession?
Answer
Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal ﵀ says that such a child will not intercede — so in Fayd al-Bari, vol. 4, p. 337. But according to the Hanafis the aqiqa is not wajib, such that omitting it would entail deprivation of intercession. Even a siqt (an incompletely formed child that is miscarried) will intercede.
