Sacrificial meat given for distribution was sold
Question
Question: Hafiz Muhammad Yasin sacrificed a heifer, came to the mosque and gave the meat of the sacrifice to the imam of the mosque for distribution, saying: “Distribute it in the village,” since the sacrifice has been stopped in the village for a long time. The imam of the mosque sold the meat at one or two annas (?) per seer (an anna is a coin worth 1/16 of a rupee; a seer is a unit of weight, ≈ 0.93 kg).
Answer
Selling the meat of the sacrifice is not permissible; the imam stated the ruling wrongly. It is wajib upon the imam to return the entire price of the meat: from whomever he took whatever price, he must return to each his price, because Hafiz Muhammad Yasin gave the meat to be distributed, not to be sold.
