Giving a third of the sacrificial meat as sadaqa
Question
People have the head, trotters and liver taken out separately from the meat of the sacrifice and use them themselves, whereas in the supplication (du‘a) of the sacrifice there is “meat in exchange for meat and hair in exchange for hair”, etc. So is this permissible? For according to this supplication every single thing ought to be divided into three parts?
Answer
Giving a third as sadaqa is merely mustahabb, not wajib. Even if all of the meat is kept for oneself and eaten, that too is permissible.
