The meat of a sacrifice offered on behalf of a deceased person
Question
Question: When a sacrifice is offered on behalf of a deceased person, may the one offering the sacrifice himself also eat its meat, or is it necessary to give all of it as sadaqa?
Answer
If the deceased had made a bequest that a sacrifice be offered on his behalf, then all of its meat should be given away as sadaqa. If he did not make a bequest, the one offering the sacrifice may eat of it himself as well; indeed, he is the owner of all of this meat, just as he is the owner of the meat of his own sacrifice (“Shami”, vol. 5, pp. 207, 213).
