Sacrificial meat for those who render services
Question
In many places there is a custom that the butcher, the barber, the washerman and the Bhangi (a member of the caste of sweepers and latrine cleaners) also ask for meat from the sacrifice, and it is given to them; if it is not given, they consider that their due has been withheld and become very upset. What is the ruling on this in the Sacred Law: is it correct for them to regard it as their due for service, and to give to them on that basis, or not?
Answer
Regarding it as a due for service is also wrong, and giving in this way is also prohibited. If it has already been given in this way, then the value of whatever was given should be given as sadaqa (Shami, vol. 5, p. 209). If it is given not as a due for service, there is no harm in it.
