Giving the meat of the sacrifice as sadaqa
Question
If there are many mouths to feed in a person’s household, is he too required to give a third of the meat of the sacrifice as sadaqa?
Answer
Giving a third of the meat as sadaqa is not binding on anyone; it is merely mustahabb. Even if one keeps all of the meat at home and eats it, that too is permissible. However, if the sacrifice was vowed (nadhr), then all of its meat must be given as sadaqa (al-Fatawa al-‘Alamgiriyya, vol. 4, p. 105).
