Sacrificial hides given to the mosque

Question

Question: The hides of sacrificial animals are mostly given to mosques, and people’s idea is probably that since the imams of mosques serve the mosque all year round, they should be treated kindly — or, in other words, given compensation for their year’s service. Since most of them, or a small number, are imams on whom paying zakat is wajib, is it permissible for such imams to take sacrificial hides or not?

Answer

The ruling on the sacrificial hide is like that of the sacrificial meat: for giving it, it is not required that the recipient be poor, not owning the nisab, or not a sayyid; rather, it is valid to give it to all — the poor, the one who owns the nisab, the sayyid.
