Can an egg be offered as a sacrifice?

Some people say that a sacrifice can also be made with an egg. What is the ruling of the Shari‘a? Please also write down some books of rulings, so that we may obtain information from them.

The wajib is not discharged by sacrificing an egg, nor does the sacrifice of an egg become wajib.
