Sacrificing an animal auctioned at a cattle pound

Question

Is it permissible in the Shari‘a to buy an animal that is auctioned at a cattle pound and to offer it as a sacrifice? After all, God knows what sort of animal it is.

Answer

In Imdad al-Fatawa (vol. 2, p. 113) it is written that buying it and offering it as a sacrifice is permissible.
