The Account of ‘Abd al-Rahman al-Qari
Question
Likewise, it is stated in the Malfuzat (“Sayings”) of Maulana Ahmad Raza Khan that a certain ‘Abd al-Rahman al-Qari, who was a kafir (do not take this “al-Qari” in the sense of a reciter of the Qur’an — it is from [the tribe of] al-Qara), fell upon the camels of the Noble Presence ﷺ, drove the camels away by force and killed the herdsman; Hazrat Abu Qatada al-Ansari ﵁ killed him. It is objected that ‘Abd al-Rahman al-Qari was a Companion (Sahabi)
Answer
‘Abd al-Rahman al-Qari was born during the blessed lifetime of the Noble Prophet ﷺ, but on account of his young age he never had occasion to hear any report from him; for this reason some have counted him among the Companions, though in the terminology of the muhaddithun he is not counted among the Companions, but rather is included among the Tabi‘un of pure Madina.
