Did Hatim al-Ta’i and Anushirwan Embrace Faith?
Question
What religion did Hatim al-Ta’i and Anushirwan the Just follow, and in what outward state did they die? Did King Anushirwan live to witness the early period of the Noble Presence ﷺ? Hatim al-Ta’i had prayed that his offspring would live on until the time of the Prophet ﷺ in order to embrace faith — what was the name of Hatim’s daughter who came to believe in the Prophet ﷺ?
Answer
Both Hatim al-Ta’i and Anushirwan passed away when the blessed Prophet ﷺ was 18 years old; both were non-Muslims. In Ruh al-Ma‘ani a narration is given concerning a lightening of punishment for Hatim al-Ta’i, for the sake of his generosity; I have not come across [any report of] Hatim al-Ta’i’s supplication.
