Muhammad Palan Haqqani and His Book “Shari‘a or Ignorance”
Question
Question: a certain gentleman, Mr. Muhammad Palan Haqqani, came to our place and delivered a sermon (waz) which made a very strong impression on the listeners; requests for sermons came from other places as well, and so a number of addresses were given. A very large number of listeners were moved to repent of innovations (bid‘a) and felt a desire for prayer; many mosques were revived; fear of Allah and a yearning for religion arose in [people’s] hearts through his speeches.
Answer
Concerning Muhammad Palan Haqqani, the two printed notices you sent have reached us, in which two Deoband fatwas — one in favour, one against — are recorded. If the question is posed thus: “does he, in his speeches, substantiate every ruling with a full reference to the verses of the Noble Qur’an, the noble hadith and fiqh?
