Imam A'zam's Fajr Prayer on the Wudu of Isha

Question

I have heard concerning Imam Abu Hanifa ﵀ that for forty years he performed the Fajr prayer with the wudu made for Isha. A certain man denies this. Kindly explain how far this statement is correct; I have also heard that ‘Allama Shibli called it incorrect in his “Sirat al-Nu‘man”.

Answer

In some books it is related concerning Imam A‘zam ﵀ that for forty years he performed the Fajr prayer with the wudu kept from the Isha prayer. Shibli and those who share his view called this incorrect, but the reason they gave for its being incorrect is not a reasonable one.
