The Descendants of Yazid

Question

Does the line of descent of the wicked Yazid continue to this day or not? If it does, where is it to be found? After the wicked Yazid, they wished to seat his son, Mu‘awiya ibn Yazid, upon the seat of the caliphate, but upon ascending the throne he [Mu‘awiya ibn Yazid] gave an admonition, related the tyranny [committed] by his father, and stepped down from the throne, saying: “Whoever of the house of Abu Sufyan is to sit upon the throne, let him sit upon it; I have no connection with occupying this throne.

Answer

Hazrat ‘Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr ﵁ did not give the pledge of allegiance to Yazid; upon his [Yazid’s] death, the people of the Hijaz, Yemen, Iraq and Khurasan gave the pledge of allegiance to Hazrat ‘Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr ﵁, and upon the death of Mu‘awiya ibn Yazid, the people of Syria and Egypt also gave the pledge to him, and he became the undisputed caliph.
