The Seal of Prophethood, and That No Fly Ever Landed on His Blessed Body

Question

Question: regarding the honourable Prophet ﷺ, this is to be enquired: what was the true nature of the seal of prophethood, who gave it the name “seal of prophethood”, and did a fly ever land on his ﷺ pure body or not?

Answer

The seal of prophethood is mentioned in many hadiths; it is described as oval in shape, the size of a pigeon's egg, situated between the Prophet's ﷺ blessed shoulders, like a reddish growth. Some hadiths state that “Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah” was written upon it; it was on his ﷺ blessed body from the very time of his birth, and it was no longer there after his passing.
