Talaq of an inept wife, and separation in a case of deception

Question

Question: a man said to his imam: “Give me your daughter, and I will arrange your nikah with an intelligent woman.” So the imam agreed on his part. Then this man arranged the imam’s nikah with an unintelligent woman — which became apparent on seeing her — and married the imam’s daughter to the son of his own relative. Now, after teaching this ill-mannered woman for a year and a half, it has become clear that she does not come to discernment. So what about releasing her now?

Answer

It is better that the imam does not release her, but rather keeps gradually training and reforming her; she will surely improve somewhat. If aversion has settled deeply in the heart, fulfilling the rights has become difficult and living together is not possible, then in such a situation the Shari‘a has not forbidden releasing her, but has permitted it.
