Hazrat Hasan ﵁ giving talaq frequently

Question

Question: Hazrat Imam Hasan ﵁ took many wives and also gave talaq. One person explained the reason as follows: women of their own accord, willingly and to obtain the honour of joining his lineage, would induce Hazrat Imam Hasan to marry them, and more than four cannot be kept at one time; therefore he had to marry them by giving talaq time after time, which is why there were many marriages and many talaqs.

Answer

Salvation in the Hereafter depends on faith (iman) and righteous deeds, not merely on nobility of lineage. However, the blessed lineage of the Prophet ﷺ certainly possesses nobility: if, together with faith and righteous deeds, this nobility is also attained, then it is “light upon light” (نور على نور) and a means of increase in ranks.
