He Wrote to His Father-in-Law: “Let the ‘Idda Be Counted for Another Son-in-Law”

Question

Question: If a son-in-law sends his respected father-in-law a letter in which he writes: “Whatever wealth you have, write half of that wealth in your daughter’s name. If you do not give it, then from ‘نمبر ع ۱/۲۶ جیٹھ’ (?) let the ‘idda be counted for another son-in-law” — but he wrote this letter only to spur the father-in-law on (?), and made no intention. Having received the son-in-law’s letter, the father-in-law sent a letter to the brother: “I will give nothing.

Answer

When the son-in-law wrote to his father-in-law: “If you do not give your daughter half of the wealth by such-and-such a date, then count the ‘idda for another son-in-law,” and did not intend talaq by it, then no talaq has occurred. The nikah of the first wife was also not affected at all by his marrying another woman.
