Giving one’s wife three talaqs and keeping her sister

Question

Question: A man said to his wife many times: “تو ابھی چلی جا جہاں تیری مرضی ہو، میں نے تم کو چھوڑ دیا اور میں تجھ کو نہیں رکھتا” (“go away right now, wherever you please; I have left you, and I am not keeping you”), and he kept his sister-in-law (his wife’s sister) in the house and also had intercourse with her. What is the ruling regarding this man’s wife?

Answer

In the case asked about, a major (mughallaza) divorce has taken effect according to the Shari‘a. If he married the sister-in-law after the end of the ‘idda, and there is no other impediment to the nikah, then this nikah is valid.
