Sending a written talaq addressed to a “dear son”

Question

The husband wrote the following note and sent it to his wife; the wife is at her parents’ home, and she also has a child: “Dear son, light of my eyes, comfort of my soul, may his life be long! After a prayer for long life, be it known that I have given you talaq (میں نے تم کو طلاق دی ہے). Wherever you live, live happily. If you do not know, then hear it now: we have given you permission with our own pen; after the completion of the ‘idda you are free to do as you wish; on our part you are free (آزاد ہو).

Answer

Talaq is given to a wife; it is not given to a “dear son”. This note is addressed to a “dear son”; because of it no talaq has occurred to the wife of the one who wrote it.
