Announcing talaq in a letter by way of a threat

Question

Zayd wrote these words to his father-in-law in a letter: “This letter of mine is an announcement of talaq, or else: by this letter I announce talaq. My wife must reach my house by 10 February, otherwise talaq will be given (نہیں تو طلاق دے دی جائے گی).” Has talaq taken effect by these words?

Answer

No talaq will occur by these words of the letter, because in it talaq has not been given; rather, it is a threat to give talaq in the future.
