When Is Wudu upon Wudu Called “Light upon Light” (Nur ‘ala Nur)?
Question
[A person] with wudu gave the adhan and then performed wudu [again]: will he attain the merit of wudu upon wudu or not? For the merit is attained by performing wudu after praying two rak‘as. Likewise, if one performs wudu again after the adhan without having prayed, will the merit and reward be attained or not?
Answer
By performing wudu again after the first wudu, the reward of “light upon light” (nur ‘ala nur) is indeed attained — on condition that with the one wudu an act of worship has been performed for which wudu is a condition and which is not valid without wudu, such as praying salah, performing the prostration of recitation (sajdat al-tilawa)
