Should the Ewer Be Placed Upright or Upside Down after Wudu?

Question

After performing wudu, is it more fitting to place the ewer turned over, or upright?

Answer

If there is fear that dust and dirt will fall into it, or that some animal will leave droppings [in it], or that a dog or the like will put its mouth into it and make it impure, then it should be placed turned over.
