Does Wine Necessitate Ghusl?
Question
Can one, after drinking wine, perform wudu and pray, or not? Given that there is no intoxication: the wine was drunk at night, and in the morning the prayer was performed without ghusl, with wudu only — is ghusl necessary or not?
Answer
Drinking wine is haram; a curse upon the one who drinks it has come in the noble hadith; and where there is a government [ruling] by the Qur’an, there is also a command to carry out the prescribed punishment (hadd). Nevertheless, ghusl does not become wajib because of it: even without ghusl, prayer after performing wudu is valid.
