The Limit of Wringing an Impure Garment
Question
It is written in Bihishti Zewar (“Heavenly Ornaments”) that the third time one should wring an impure garment with such thoroughness — wring it with all one's strength — that when wrung once more no drops of water drip from it. Now the question is this: if one wrings it applying a little more strength, drops of water will drip; and if one keeps increasing the strength again and again, drops of water will keep dripping; if the garment is thin or old it will even tear; and when it comes to washing two, four or ten…
Answer
Once it has been wrung so hard that the drops have stopped coming out, that is enough; beyond that, one should neither tear the garment nor cause one's hands pain.
