A mu'takif going outside the mosque for Tarawih
Question
In the case mentioned, may the mu'takif go into the courtyard (sahn) for Tarawih or not? That if the intention was made at the time of i'tikaf he may go out, and otherwise not — is this correct or wrong?
Answer
By praying Tarawih in a place that is not a mosque, the merit of Tarawih will be attained; however, the sunna kifaya (a sunna fulfilled for all when some perform it) is attained in the mosque, and the reward of praying in the mosque is twenty-seven degrees — that will not be obtained (Kabiri, p. 384).
