Excluding one day from the sunna i'tikaf

Question

Zayd performs the sunna i'tikaf of the last ten days of blessed Ramadan. If, before entering i'tikaf, he makes the intention that on such-and-such a date of Ramadan he will go out on a journey for one day or one night and will leave the place of i'tikaf, will the sunna i'tikaf be fulfilled in that case, and will it be permissible to go out of the i'tikaf or not?

Answer

In this way the sunna i'tikaf will not be fulfilled, and by going out the i'tikaf will not remain.
