The interval between the Maghrib and Isha prayers
Question
What is the minimum interval that should be kept between the Maghrib prayer and the Isha prayer? Here it has generally become customary to keep an interval of at most one hour between them. If some scholar or devout worshipper falls into this practice, what would you say about whether his prayer is valid or not?
Answer
In our region the interval from Maghrib to Isha is approximately an hour and a half: that is exactly how much time passes from sunset until the white twilight (al-shafaq al-abyad) disappears — whoever wishes may observe it himself or look at the local prayer calendars.
