What is the interval between Asr and Maghrib?
Question
(1) Excluding the original shadow (fay' al-zawal), is the interval from the beginning of two shadow-lengths (mithlayn) until sunset two hours or a quarter to two hours? And is there any season in which this interval is two hours? (2) Does the interval from the beginning of two shadow-lengths until sunset change with the seasons — heat, cold and so on — or does it always remain the same? If it changes, in which season and in which place is the difference approximately how many minutes?
Answer
(1) It is not the same everywhere and always. (2) It keeps changing: it is shorter in winter, and the difference also varies with the locality.
