The Times of Zuhr and Asr

Question

What are the times of Zuhr and Asr in the light of the hadiths?

Answer

According to Imam A‘zam Abu Hanifa ﵀, the time of Zuhr begins when, after istiwa’, zawal occurs and the shadow begins to lengthen, and it ends when the shadow of everything becomes twice its length (two shadow-lengths), apart from the original shadow (fay’ al-zawal). The time of Asr begins when the time of Zuhr ends, and it lasts until sunset.
