Fajr in Ramadan at the Beginning of Its Time
Question
(1) Which is better: only in blessed Ramadan to hold the congregation immediately after the adhan — or, as in the other eleven months, to hold the congregation after the adhan at the Hanafi time, and in the interval, while waiting for the time, to engage in the remembrance of Allah (dhikr) as one is accustomed? For throughout the year there is an interval of half an hour to an hour between the adhan and the congregation of Zuhr, Isha and Fajr. (2)
Answer
In the blessed hadith there is a command to pray Fajr not in the darkness but when the light has spread: [ar]أَسْفِرُوا بِالْفَجْرِ فَإِنَّهُ أَعْظَمُ لِلْأَجْرِ[/ar] “Pray Fajr when it has become light (isfar), for it is greater in reward” (hadith). The Hanafi jurists have written the same.
