Three Different Practices at the Time of Fajr
Question
The mosque clock is set to radio time, and in the sunrise and sunset table the time of sunrise is shown as 7:20. (A) performs wudu', enters the mosque at 7:10 and waits for sunrise, and after thirty minutes have passed, at 7:40, prays Fajr as qada'. (B) performs wudu', comes to the mosque at 7:15 and immediately prays the two rak'as of Fajr as ada', finishing by 7:18. He prays the two [rak'as of] sunna as qada' at 7:35. (B)
Answer
Since (A) had time for the prayer ten minutes before sunrise and yet did not perform Fajr, but sat until the sun rose and then prayed it as qada', (A) became sinful. The time of Fajr remains until the edge of the sun appears; his claim that prayer and prostration are already haram at that time is wrong.
