The Recommended Time of the Fajr Prayer

Question

According to the Hanafis, when does the time of Fajr begin, and at what clock time should the congregational prayer be held in the manner of the sunna? I wish to know the time according to the Shari'a — the time at which our illustrious master used to pray.

Answer

The Prophet ﷺ generally used to perform Fajr, after true dawn had broken, after such a time that the heavy darkness had ended and a state had set in where people looking at one another could recognise each other's faces — which in Arabic is called isfar.
