The Times of Prayer

Question

Kindly explain the beginning and end [of the time] of the five daily prayers, and within that also explain from when the disliked (makruh) time begins for a fard prayer performed on time (ada'), and when the forbidden (haram) time then sets in.

Answer

The time of Fajr begins at true dawn (subh sadiq) and lasts until shortly before sunrise; once the edge [of the sun] has risen, the time of Fajr has ended. All of this time is complete (kamil). The time of Zuhr begins at zawal (the sun's decline from the meridian) and lasts until two shadow-lengths (mithlayn)
