Clarifying a Passage of Bihishti Gawhar

Question

In Bihishti Gawhar (“The Heavenly Pearl”), part eleven (published by Kutubkhana Akhtari, adjacent to Madrasa Mazahir al-‘Ulum), on p. 70, under the rulings on missed (qada’) prayers, the wording of ruling no. 2 has apparently escaped revision. The printed wording is: “If a minor boy prays ‘Isha’ and goes to sleep, and after the break of dawn wakes up and sees traces of semen, from which it becomes known that he has had a wet dream (ihtilam), then according to the preponderant view (rajih) he should repeat (i‘ada)

Answer

Prayer becomes fard upon reaching maturity (bulugh); what is performed before that will not be considered fard. Regarding a minor who prayed ‘Isha’, then went to sleep and had a wet dream, by which he came to be counted as mature and the prayer was deemed fard for him, the jurists have written: if he woke from that sleep before the break of dawn, then by consensus (ijma‘)
