Is the Jumu‘a Prayer Alone Sufficient for Salvation?
Question
There is a man who in his whole life never prays except for Jumu‘a. On the first day of Ramadan this man came to the mosque and prayed. About him a certain religious scholar says that the fire of Hell is forbidden for him and he will never go to Hell, that is, he does not deserve Hell. Please set out the ruling with proofs.
Answer
That a person gains deliverance from punishment for his whole life merely by praying on a single day is not established by the texts (nusus) or the principles (usul); rather, it is in clear contradiction to them. The five daily prayers are established categorically (qat‘i); whoever denies them is a kafir.
