Praying with the Hands Folded

Question

In our village there also live people of the Shi‘i community, and they pray with their hands hanging down, while we are of the Hanafi school. These people urge the Shi‘i creed upon us and say that nowhere in the hadith or the Qur’an is it written that one should pray “having tied the niyya”, nor is there any command to pray with the hands folded. Therefore, kindly give an answer to this in the light of the Qur’an and hadith.

Answer

In the Noble Qur’an there is a perfectly clear command to follow and obey the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: [ar]وَمَآ ءَاتَىٰكُمُ ٱلرَّسُولُ فَخُذُوهُ…[/ar] “And whatever the Messenger gives you, take it…” (Surah al-Hashr, 59:7). And the Messenger of Allah ﷺ himself prayed with his hands folded in the state of qiyam (standing)
