If “Bismillah” Is Not Recited Before Making the Intention

Question

After performing wudu and standing for prayer, should a person recite “Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim” before making the intention (niyyah), or may he make the intention without it? In other words, is reciting Bismillah before the intention permissible?

Answer

There is no objection to making the intention without reciting Bismillah. Reciting Bismillah at this point is not necessary. Considering it necessary at this moment is incorrect and impermissible.
