Supplication at Iftar Is Accepted, but It Should Not Be Congregational

Question

Hazrat Shaykh al-Hadith ﵀ writes in his book “Fada’il-i Ramadan” (“Virtues of Ramadan”), p. 20, that some narrations state that supplication is accepted at the time of iftar. After recording some particular supplications for that time, he writes that no supplication is specifically prescribed: at the time when supplications are answered, pray for your own needs, and if you remember, include this black-deeded one (i.e. the author) as well, for I am a petitioner and a petitioner has a right.

Answer

The imam did right in leading the supplication in order to explain the ruling, but they should not keep to this supplication as a fixed practice in a congregational form; rather, from time to time they should remind the people that supplication is accepted at this time, [and] that each person should ask for his own needs.
