Reciting Qur’anic Supplications in Prostration

Question

May one, in the prayer, recite Qur’anic supplications individually in ruku‘ and sajda instead of the tasbihs, in a fard or nafl prayer? May one gather the supplications found in various places of the Qur’an and recite them in fard and nafl prayers?

Answer

In the prayer, in ruku‘ and sajda, it is appropriate to confine oneself to the tasbihs alone; recitation (tilawa) of the Noble Qur’an [in them] should be avoided, although the prayer will not become fasid (invalid) by reciting a Qur’anic supplication either. Some supplications have come in the hadith; there is no harm in reciting them in nafl prayers.
