Forming the intention of a legal journey in the middle of a non-legal journey

Question

A traveller in the state of journeying: in a case where, when he set out from his home, he had no intention of becoming a legal traveller, but in the middle of the journey formed the intention of becoming a legal traveller — from what point should he now perform qasr? Should he perform qasr right there, in the place or settlement where he is, or begin qasr after leaving the bounds of that village?

Answer

In Shahdara this person is not a traveller; rather, [he becomes one] after beginning the journey from here. Therefore he should perform qasr after leaving Shahdara, and in Shahdara, since he has the status of a resident (muqim), he should pray in full (itmam).
